Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For in that He Himself is able to aid those who are tempted. (Hebrews 2:17-18)
This declaration that Jesus Christ first had to suffer, and be tempted in every human way, in order to fulfill one of His divine titles, in this case: High Priest. His mercy and faithfulness as the Son of God, and High Priest give us hope in that we can be seen by Him as someone who understands what we go through in this life, and that He is able to see us through our times of trial and temptation. By His sinless and perfect life while in human form, He became the Father’s acceptable and perfect sacrifice for atoning our sins as a Lamb offered without blemish, so Jesus Christ offered His life in order to satisfy the Father’s requirement for atoning the sins of us all. And because we have a Great High Priest who can sympathize with our weakness, He is able to see us through difficulties in life we’re facing because of what He endured. For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls. You have not yet resisted to bloodshed, striving against sin (Hebrews 12:3-4). This is telling us that there has only been One, who has suffered to the point of bloodshed, which was what God the Father required, and still be without sin, to atone for the sins of everyone who has ever lived (John 3:16).
Beloved Friend, Take the offer God has offered to us through faith in His Son, Christ the Lord, that through Him and His sacrifice, We have forgiveness and eternal life and the comfort of knowing that He is able to help us in our time of need.
May the Lord bless your walk with Him!
